How do I Start Bouldering
What is Bouldering?
Bouldering is an exciting type of rock climbing which is normally done at a low level, without ropes, with an emphasis on technique and power. As the name suggests, this type of climbing is usually done on boulders or smaller rock outcrops. Our brand new Indoor Bouldering Centre will provide you with a superb platform to start climbing and the necessary tools to take your climbing to the highest level!
How do I start?
In order to climb on the bouldering wall you either have to be a Competent climber or you are being Supervised by a Competent climber.
Here are the entry options for Adults:
New or Inexperienced Climber:
Option 1: Book onto our Introduction Bouldering course below.
Option 2: Watch our bouldering induction video, register online, pass Bouldering Induction questionnaire (series of questions based on information learned from experience, Instructor on Introduction to Bouldering Course or Bouldering Induction video) and start climbing
Competent Climber (Adult): Get straight into it. Register online (here), pass Bouldering Induction questionnaire (series of questions based on information learned from experience, Instructor on Introduction to Bouldering Course or Bouldering Induction video) and start climbing.
Junior Climbers (3 – 17)
Junior climbers must be supervised by a competent, adult climber at all times with the exception of experienced 14 – 17 yo climbers who can climb unsupervised, if they have completed an Unsupervised Access Test (phone centre to book – 01329 282923).
If the competent, adult climber does not want to climb they will be charged £2 (a Supervisory fee) and must shadow the junior/s at all times.

This can be done whilst your child attends Creepy Crawlies or Arachnids.
Do I need any equipment to start bouldering?
Boulderer’s normally wear climbing specific shoes which are designed to help them grip on the wall and also a stiff edge to aid standing on smaller holds. No need to worry if you don’t own any yet, we have shoes you can hire ranging from kids size 11 right up to adult 13’s at £3 per pair per session.
Any clothing is acceptable as long as it allows free movement.
